Nearly six months have passed since one of my favorite Cuban singers died - Sixto Llorente, known as El Indio.

I followed him through his peak years in the Manolito Simonet band, and though he was never the star of the band, his tone and style of singing that was closer to the traditional Son was always able to touch and excite.
Now, six months after his death, the band 79 Plena released a medley (two songs connected together) of the songs of the band "Manolito Simonet Y Su Trabuco", dedicating the second of them (Marcando la distancia) to "El Indio".
The performer of the medley is Alain Pérez, about whom we've written here already in the past, of how he seems to be the busiest artist in Havana right now.

The result is a fun arrangement and an exciting tribute to a beloved artist.
And for those interested in comparing it to the original - here is the original performance by Marcando La Distancia, one of his more recognizable hits with El Indio from an album released in 1998.
