Compay Segundo
1907 - 2003

Francisco Rapilado has a deep baritone voice that is ideal for a second voice. When funding his first band - Dou Compaders at 1943, he embraced the nickname Compay Segundo (Second friend) as a reference to his vocal contribution.
Although he was never a great singer, he was an outstanding song writer who wrote many hits throughout a career span of 80 years.
Segundo lived through the golden times of the entertainment industry in Cuba and also endured the tough years of the revolution. He never quit writing and performing.
In 1980 he joined Eliades Ochoa and his quarteto Patria and the mid 90s brought him international fame after his captivating appearance on the film Buena Vista Social Club.
He died at the age of 95 after living eventfull live.
